Start with how often you use the fire
An occasional evening fire uses far fewer logs than a stove that provides daily heat. Think about the number of days per week you burn, how many hours the appliance runs and whether it is your main or supplementary heat source.
Use one delivery as a practical benchmark
For a standard wood burner, an XL dumpy bag may last around one to two weeks, but actual use varies considerably. Record how long your first bag lasts in your own home; that gives you a much more reliable basis for planning the rest of the season.
Allow for the appliance and the wood
A small efficient stove, a large firebox and an open fireplace all consume fuel differently. Dense hardwood commonly gives steady heat, while softwood tends to light quickly and produce a livelier flame. A mixed bag offers flexibility.
Check how much you can store
Only order what you can keep dry and ventilated. Logs should be raised from damp ground, covered from direct rain and left with airflow around the stack. If storage is limited, smaller repeat deliveries may suit you better than several bags at once.
